Bumper plates or iron plates?
- Bumper plates (Urethane Pro Series, Sport rubber) are 450 mm across and built for lifts that are dropped.
- Urethane vs rubber bumpers. At the same weight the urethane plate is thinner (45 lb: 2.05 in vs 2-7/8 in), which leaves more room on the sleeve.
- Iron plates (VM TPU, urethane-covered) have a cast-iron core and are not bumper plates. American Barbell states its Olympic (non-bumper) plate lines are not designed or warranted for dropping.
