American Barbell's competition-spec bar pairs a stainless steel shaft with precision needle bearings. American Barbell tests the shaft steel with every shipment of raw material, aiming for a consistent 190,000 PSI. The sleeves are welded with a recessed weld so plates sit flush against the collar.
How it compares
American Barbell calls its competition-spec bar the pinnacle of its range. Stainless steel needs no shaft coating; American Barbell notes it resists corrosion and can be cleaned and repaired without damaging the surface. Its concealed bearing system is designed so the bar spins smoother as the load gets heavier. If you don't need bearings, the SS Precision Training Bar keeps the stainless shaft and uses composite bushings.
Highlights
- Stainless steel shaft. Uncoated stainless for corrosion resistance and a direct knurl feel.
- Concealed bearing system. Precision needle bearings, with a dust and chalk seal to protect them.
- Recessed weld. The sleeve weld is recessed so plates rest flush against the collar.
- 20 kg center knurl. A ghost center knurl on the 20 kg bar; none on the 15 kg bar.
